The Start of A New Journey: Semester 4 (Jan - May 2010)

I think it's not too late to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

(Sorry. Not in the mood of editing; I'm in the 'Rebellious' mood because we'll be flying back
to Shah Alam tomorrow and I'm feeling a bit...heavy-hearted! Perhaps it's because we're going to spend the whole 5 months there? *Sob..sob*)

Today, the 4th of January 2010, marks the beginning of our brand new semester! (Another one and a half year to go before we go back to our Gaya College. Wee~

And one more thing, let us all pray that our allowance will come out ASAP! I (and most of us) certainly can't bear to wait for another month!)

Ok now, BE GOOD!

Ho Ho Ho!

Can you hear the bell? Well no one is getting married (not yet) but Christmas is just around the corner and it's just a few days away!

Well 2009 has marked a magnificent year to the Gaya Cohort 5. We spent half of the year in our beloved land below the wind and a few months in a place with less wind but lots of crows which is Shah Alam. Undeniably, all of us ( if not all but maybe most) are not keen on returning to UiTM because it's Christmas and it's New Year and we are BROKE...tsk tsk

Our 3rd Sem memorabilia has been well embodied by Ashley in Goodbye Sem 3, Hello Sem 4: A 15min Review of 6-Month Events  and the 3rd sem of degree gave us a chance to make a comeback to the acting world and this time we had two drama stagings...thou we couldn't perform as a group like we did in Pygmalion, still it was a great and priceless experience we had during the staging of Bawang Besar & Bawang Kecil and the adaptation of Dayang Senandung and actually... what we treasure the most is the fact we are strong as a group regardless the different classes that we go in the faculty but we've always been there for each other. Sometimes, words are not enough to explain everything but what we've been through together is a proof that the friendship will last for the next 2 and a half years..and in fact for the rest of our lives!

Okay, lastly just wanna say MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
and.... ladies & gentlemen, DO NOT FORGET TO DO YOUR COURSE REGISTRATION in the student's portal. The portal is open for course registration but it seems that the timetable has yet to be updated but just keep your eyes open, the new timetable should be up soon.

and once again...ho ho ho! Merry Christmas to Joy, Ashley, Mark, Jit, Ann, Carol and not to forget, our beloved lecturers - Mr.Lourdes, Mr. Bala, Mr. Gerard, Madam Patsy, Miss Jenny Pang, Mdm Diana (madam already lah now :p) and of course to everyone in Gaya English Department, to all the lecturers who have taught us before, to our friends in Gaya, to our family and to c5crew readers too! hooorayyyy... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

p/s: c5crew.blogspot.com is looking for more authors! come and join the boat :p

Goodbye Sem 3, Hello Sem 4: A 15min Review of 6-Month Events.

03/11/2009 marks the end of our third semester, our first year in UiTM Shah Alam, as we finished our last exam paper, TSL485 - Applied Phonetics & Phonology. How time really flies, and now we're heading to our fourth semester already! And here's the review of our third sem!

♫ ♪ ✰ ٩(●̮̮̃•)۶ ✰ ♪ ♫

HBU111 (National Kesatria 1)
✰ The fearful Saturday morning activity: Marching practice from 8-10am. Other activities included seminars, PERKAD, KEBINA, physical test, writing test. Although it's not one of our favourite activities, yet we benefited a lot from it, especially in making new friends and gaining some new experiences. :)

BEL422 (Report Writing) - Taught by Mdm Jeba Ebenezer
✰ Mdm Jeba is just funny (and she has great hair!) but kind of strict on us in doing our research project. The course will help us a lot in doing academic studies in the future. As for the group I was in, if you remember Mdm Jeba, you'll remember our class monitor, Nazri...*wink*wink*

EDU550 (Educational Psychology) - Taught by Mdm Nadia Ainuddin
✰ Mdm Nadia is such a nice, gentle, motherly and calm lecturer, even though everybody was kind of blurred when she asked questions. As the course name implied, I guess we were 'psycho-ed' everytime we were in her class because of too many inputs (and maybe less outputs? :P)

TSL480 (Oral Communication) - Taught by Mdm Syahreena Shahrom
✰ The most feared thing of all: public speaking! Throughout this course, we had to deliver two speeches: informative and persuasive speech. This is a no-joke matter, especially with the strict Mdm Syahreena in giving marks.

TSL485 (Applied Phonetics & Phonology) - Taught by Mr Suthagar Narasuman
✰ "Yes, no, not sure?" Favourite phrase from Mr Suthagar, who is very laidback and relax. This is a very difficult course (and fearful), apart from Educational Psychology, and the assessments included group project, individual presentation and final examination.

TSL520 (Teaching English Through Drama) - Taught by Ms Munirah Mohd Izam
✰ I think majority of us enjoyed TSL 520 the most because for this course, we did miming, MTV making, readers' theater and final drama production; not so much of the ordinary, boring lectures. Being in the 3-hour class sure is tiring but thanks to Ms Munirah (or her glamorous name, Ms Moon) for being a sporting and laid-back lecturer.

Third Language:
BMD401 - Mandarin 1 (Taught by Ms Teh Hong Siok)
BKR401 - Korean 1 (Taught by Mdm Tiara Baek-Ji-Yeon)
BFR401 - (Taught by Mr. Alexander Xavier)
BAB401 - Arabic 1 (Taught by Ustaz Sahabudin Salleh)
✰ 25 of us have chosen between these four languages, with majority are taking Mandarin. The acquisition of a new language is difficult and challenging at our stage; what's more, our 2-hour class was in the afternoon which tired us out fast. The assessments for this course included oral, listening, writing tests and short clip production in the respective languages. But it's kind of fun, learning a new language and later use it in the future. :)

♫ ♪ ✰ ٩(●̮̮̃•)۶ ✰ ♪ ♫

Other activities we had included Buka Puasa Night, Raya Open House and a lot of outings, e.g. KL city, Sunway Lagoon, etc.!

Yup, it has been a wild and hectic semester as we juggled up 7 subjects/courses in less than 6 months' time. At the same time dealing with a lot of problems, dilemmas, hardships, etc. But of course, not forgetting all the happy and joyful moments we had with the lecturers and our new friends from IPKB!

THANK YOU to all the lecturers, our IPKB friends/coursemates and my Gaya brothers and sisters! And together we strive against another challenging semester!

Post for Raya 09! ♥

It’s been almost 2 months already we’re being UiTM students here in Shah Alam and no kidding, the feelings we’re having now is starting to contradict with the feelings we had when we started to arrive here; sad, homesick, stressed out, etc. We must say that this university life is starting to get interesting (well, before we’ll feel it’s getting boring) compared to our ‘maktab’ life; I mean, here in UiTM, there are more activities/events held from time to time; more interesting (and uninteresting) people to meet; more freedom for clothing (but ‘bebas tapi sopan’. Oh, I’ve just remembered that phrase.)

In this fasting month, we've been through a lot of...difficulties? --> Kesatria, exploring the ramadhan bazaars and missing the bazaar at KK, stressing out because of stacks of assignment, presentations, etc...

Then on last Saturday, Sept 12th, the whole class had a ‘sungkai’ (breaking fast session) + playing fireworks with some of our new friends from IPKB at our house.

Time for pics!

After we finished preparing the food and drink the whole evening ,

....and continue with the fast-breaking session,

(Photo session is a must!)

We proceed to the firework session, and then...

Out of nowhere came the 'rempit' session..

The 'jumping' photo session..
Then there was the 'ghost story-telling' session (no pic taken)...

and finally the 'cultural nite' session..

Glad that everybody enjoyed themselves that night..:)

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

For more pics, click HERE for direct access to my photo album 'Sungkai Havoc Nite' on Facebook.

So, final words for now!

SELAMAT HARI RAYA, everybody!
MAAF ZAHIR & BATIN..

~ From me, Ashley ~

xoxo

P/s: Sorry for those who didn't manage to go back to their respective hometown for this Raya...

Pygmalion: The Musical Recap (Cohort 5 Production)

Came across this video in Fanzie's channel in Youtube. If only we had a better cameraman with a better camcorder *sigh*.

Enjoy a short flight of reminiscence ^^

First Month In Shah Alam

To wrap up the ups and downs of our first month in Shah Alam *drum rolls* would be the long awaited break..(not really long awaited as it was suddenly announced). Due to H1N1, UiTM had just announced a sudden one week break to prevent H1N1 from spreading rapidly as it already does in other UiTM branches (Penang and Ipoh).

In fact, a few of us already flew back to Sabah, some had gone back to respective relative's places and as for the rest, we are stuck in both Mawar and Cendana. By this weekend, the girls will be moving to their new rental house which is next to the Edu Faculty in Section 17. As for the guys, they will remain in Cendana until they will be chased out :D

Reminiscing back the past when we were still in Gaya, the perfect place to go would be none other than Centre Point. Now that we are in Shah Alam, the only place that we ALWAYS go would be the Section 2 bus stop and food court. Luckily, the food is reasonably priced and surprisingly cheaper than Gaya's cafe.

The BAD thing about Shah Alam is ..emm correction, it should be the BAD THINGS about Shah Alam are the polluted environment, snobbish people and most importantly there is NO CINEMA here! So the nearest place to watch a movie would be Sunway Pyramid and Jusco Bukit Raja. If we take a taxi to these places, the cost is RM17 to Jusco Bukit Raja from girl's hostel (Kolej Mawar) and a lil bit more expensive if its from Cendana. On the other hand, it would cost around RM30 to Sunway Pyramid.

So the best way to save up the traveling explenses is to take the most available public transportation in Shah Alam - RapidKL busses. It only costs RM1 to section 2 for bus interchange and we don't need to pay again for the next bus because the ticket is applicable for the whole day. The next stop would be the KTM station, and again it only costs another RM1 to Subang Jaya and then we have to take the mini bus so there goes another RM1 or 70 cent or 80 cent (depends on the bus driver) to Sunway Pyramid.

Altogether, we have to take 2 RapidKL busses, KTM to Subang Jaya and a mini bus that total the expense to Sunway Pyramid as much as RM3 and guess what? it is 10 times cheaper than taking a taxi :p

Still, a movie in Growball Centre Point only costs us RM5 and now a ticket to watch Harry Potter in the weekend is RM11 and RM12 for blockbuster movies. It is truly, madly deeply expensive 0_0 Although the price for students is RM9, it is not applicable in weekend so its still rubbish, considering weekend is the time for students to go out ....0_0

Anyhow, we had quite a blast during our recent activies. All C5 from IP gaya have been appointed to be the most HAPPENING cheer squad for Edu Faculty to cheer up all the atlethes and marching squad that will compete in SAF (Sukan Antara Fakulti) event. As usual, the 23 of us (minus Azmi and Kadrey who are taking part in SAF too for 'Ping Pong') ROCK the stadium with our spectacular entrance and ear-blowing cheers ^^

P/S: Kesatria sux! Only Mark, Rafail and Hazwan went to Gettin To Know You event ... XD
